The need for better AD animal models
Drug development for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has proven to be particularly difficult. Only five symptomatic drugs have been approved for its treatment between 1993 and 2003. Despite great efforts on research and huge investments on drug development, no new treatments have been approved for AD since 2003. In particular, drug development success rate has been staggering low with many small molec...
متن کاملWhy we need better test evaluations.
A laboratory test is clinically useful only if it successfully answers a question of consequence to patient management. Unfortunately, the results and conclusions of many published test evaluations are misleading or of uncertain validity because common-sense principles of study design are overlooked. This is illustrated by examples from recent literature. We suggest that tests should be evaluat...
متن کاملNatural User Interfaces : Why We Need Better Model - Worlds , Not Better
We introduce our view of the relation between symbolic gestures and manipulations in multi-touch Natural User Interfaces (NUI). We identify manipulations not gestures as the key to truly natural interfaces. Therefore we suggest that future NUI research should be more focused on designing visual workspaces and model-world interfaces that are especially appropriate for multi-touch manipulations.

These questions can be reformulated into explicit research objects: a) real-time situation assessment that builds on semantic mapping and supports perspective-taking and affordances analysis, b) interleaved geometric, temporal and symbolic reasoning that supports in particular identification of situations and actions, c) management and exploitation of independent, possibly contradictory, belief...
متن کاملFlu, Flu Vaccines, and Why We Need to Do Better
